Transdev London enhances performance and service with MiX Telematics

02 September 2009

Transdev London has begun a major programme of operational performance and customer service enhancement with the roll-out of its first 147 MiX Telematics fleet management solutions. Based on MiX Telematics' FM Communicator equipped with the optional RIBAS display unit, the system's introduction commenced at Transdev London's Shepherd's Bush garage.

Transdev London "The MiX Telematics solution provides a number of key benefits and our aim is to enhance the overall passenger experience by providing a smoother and more comfortable drive," comments Transdev London's Engineering Director, Les Birchley.  "While the fuel savings and associated reduction in carbon dioxide we achieved during our pilot trials provided sufficient compelling evidence on their own, the system also appeals to our drivers as it helps them get the best from their vehicles in every respect. When you add all the benefits together – improved passenger comfort,  reduced fuel consumption, reduced emissions, reduced wear and tear, and enhanced safety for other road users and pedestrians – it's easy for our drivers to appreciate they now have a powerful tool at their disposal.

"As such, the FM Communicators and RIBAS display units have been extremely well accepted into our fleet. As part of our introduction, we have appointed a 'champion' – a highly skilled and experienced driver – on each of our routes.  In time, our other drivers will be challenged to beat the champion, thereby providing an incentive to do even better. Previously we would have expected to see an initial all-round improvement, followed by many drivers progressively slipping back into old habits. But the RIBAS unit is a real differentiator here as it provides a constant aid to our drivers, day-in, day-out."
