The management of MIX TELEMATICS UK LTD recognise and accept their responsibilities and duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and other relevant statutory provisions. The Management are committed to the provision of safe and healthy working conditions for all employees, contractors and visitors of MIX TELEMATICS UK LTD and to the safeguarding of all persons entering our premises. The Management of health and safety is a core management function and departmental managers will work to ensure the commitment of all members of staff to the full implementation of MIX TELEMATICS UK LTD Health and Safety Policy.
The attention of all employees is drawn to their legal responsibility under Section 7 of the above Act to take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and of other persons that may be affected by their acts or omissions at work. Also, as regards any duty or requirement imposed on their employer or other person by or under any of the relevant statutory provisions, to co-operate so far as is necessary to enable that duty or requirement to be performed or complied with. All persons on MIX TELEMATICS UK LTD premises have a duty under Section 8 of the above Act not to interfere with or to misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety or welfare in pursuance of any of the relevant statutory provisions. Regulation 14 of the Management of Health and Safety Regulations (1999) requires all employees to report without delay, to their employer or a colleague with health and safety responsibilities such as the HR Manager, any work situation that could give rise to serious and imminent danger to health and safety and also any noted shortcomings in the employer's protection arrangements for health and safety. Proper consideration of health, safety and environmental matters is an important part of our own operation and of the service provided to others. Its aims are the health, safety and wellbeing of all employees and total quality in the way in which we conduct our business.
Policy
It is MIX TELEMATICS UK LTD policy to comply with all relevant statutory and regulatory provisions and to take such additional measures as it considers necessary. To achieve this MIX TELEMATICS UK LTD will, as a minimum, operate to legal requirements and established standards of good practice and will as far as is reasonably practicable:
- Manage its activities in such a way as to ensure that the health, safety and welfare of all employees, temporary, contract/work experience, and any other persons on its premises are not put at risk.
- Provide and maintain plant and systems of work that are safe and with minimum risk to health.
- Make arrangements for ensuring safety and absence of risks to health in connection with the use, handling, storage and transport of articles and substances.
- Provide the necessary information, instruction, training and supervision to ensure the health and safety of all employees, temporary contract/work experience and any other persons on MIX TELEMATICS UK LTD premises.
- As regards any place of work under MIX TELEMATICS UK LTD control, maintain it in a condition that is safe and with minimum risk to health and provide and maintain means of safe access and egress.
- Provide and maintain a working environment that is safe, with minimum risk to health and is adequate with regard to facilities and arrangements for the welfare at work of all employees.
- Promote through consultation and other means, the active involvement of employees and visitors in the development, promotion, implementation and monitoring of measures provided for health, safety and welfare.
- Ensure that risk assessments are carried out as required by the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and other regulations.
- Cooperate in safety matters with other employers with whom MIX TELEMATICS UK LTD shares buildings and co-ordinate safety arrangements with such employers as required by the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
- Appoint competent persons to provide advice in accordance with the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
- Seek specialist advice on health and safety matters as and when necessary.
- Investigate thoroughly all accidents and unusual occurrences affecting health and safety.
- Provide a set of standards and guidance to assist those responsible for the implementation of this policy.
- Monitor compliance with safety measures by regular inspection, monitoring and auditing.
- Ensure that all sites prepare local safety policies and codes of practice. The collected local safety policies and codes of practice together with this document and the Local Rules of each site make up the MIX TELEMATICS UK LTD Health and Safety Policy as required under Section 2(3) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Copies of all constituent documents shall be available for inspection on the company intranet pages and local notice boards.
- Provide adequate resources and facilities to enable the requirements of this policy to be achieved. Pecuniary decisions remain with the Financial Director and are escalated to this level as required.
- Seek to make progressive improvements in health and safety by formulating an annual safety plan for MIX TELEMATICS UK LTD.
- Review MIX TELEMATICS UK LTD Health and Safety Policy annually or more frequently if justified. Daily occurrences, organisational changes, accident and near miss reports and risk assessment reports will all potentially reflect on policy inclusions. These factors and others are considered during any review of company policy. The next annual review of this Policy will take place 04.08.2010.
The managers of departmental functions are responsible for ensuring compliance with the MIX TELEMATICS UK LTD Health and Safety Policy within their area of control. Whilst MIX TELEMATICS UK LTD accepts ultimate responsibility for implementation of this policy a top down bottom up style of management has been adopted to ensure that individuals have ample opportunity to fulfil their duty of co-operating with those responsible for the management of Health and Safety. All employees are required to abide by the regulations made under the authority of this policy and relevant statutory provisions. They are also actively encouraged to make suggestions regarding improvements where appropriate. An open door policy and walkabout management techniques are adopted to ensure good two way communication and feedback regarding any and all matters relating to safety.
