MiX Vision - In-vehicle Camera Solution with Telematics

Driving-related incidents can cost fleet operators millions each year – in fuel, maintenance costs, damages and insurance claims. But seeing these incidents first-hand makes all the difference – and ultimately puts fleet managers at the scene and in control.

Using video footage captured with in-vehicle and road facing cameras, MiX Vision allows fleet managers to see driving related incidents for themselves.

The MiX Vision unit boasts an infrared driver-facing camera, microphone and a 3G modem. This means that low-light recording and accompanying sound is possible. During play-back, videos also display the date, time, vehicle speed and RPM.

How does it work?

How does it work?

A MiX Vision video recording unit is installed in the vehicle’s cab – this works in conjunction with the MiX Telematics on-board computer.

Notifications for driving events such as harsh braking or harsh acceleration can be set up so that when an event occurs, the system triggers the automatic upload of two videos – one showing the driver and one showing the road.

MiX Vision transmits data automatically from the vehicle to the office via a SIM card so, in the event of an incident, video footage can be accessed remotely without having to physically visit the vehicle.

Frequently asked questions

Is the camera recording all of the time?

Yes

Where does the camera save and store video footage?

It transmits the data on a SIM card. The data is then stored on the on-board computer and downloaded remotely via the MiX Telematics software portal.

How is data sent from the vehicle to the office?

Data is sent once a trip has ended. It is then possible to view a short clip of the footage, or the event on an activity timeline or on the MiX Telematics mapping software. It is also possible to request an extended high-resolution clip.

Is it possible to watch the driver in the cab from the office in real-time?

No, data is only transmitted to the online platform at the end of a trip.

How long is data recorded and stored by MiX Vision?

MiX Vision stores up to 72 hours of rolling trip data. After 72 hours of recording, and if data is not downloaded, it is automatically overwritten.

In the event of an accident, how do I access the video data remotely?

Data is sent at the end of every trip. So if there is an accident, the vehicle comes to a stop, the trip ends, and the data is transmitted to the online platform via the SIM card.

Does the camera record when the ignition is off?

No, the camera only records when the ignition is on.

Does the driver need to interact with the camera?

No, and the camera is designed deliberately to be tamper-proof.

How is it possible to test the camera to make sure it is working?

The camera’s power comes from the vehicle, and can be tested via the online platform.

How are the events set up?

The specific events and event parameters are set up in the configuration process. They can be changed via the online platform at a later date if necessary.
